Mini/nano U2F keys from Key-ID

Key-ID FIDO U2F keys are convenient nano-sized 2nd factor authentication devices that are ready to use straight ‘out of the box’; there’s no pre-registration or configuration of keys required. Because the U2F standard is supported natively by compatible web browsers there’s no client software to install either. Users simply self-register, and then use their unique mini cryptographic USB key to access all their FIDO enabled accounts; tapping the key’s button when prompted during log-in.

Why do I need a security key?

For organizations and individuals alike, continuing to rely on just usernames and passwords to access online accounts is a major security risk. Known data breaches have impacted hundreds of millions of accounts and new phishing threats are emerging all the time from criminals trying to trick people in to revealing log-in information, or using social engineering techniques to deduce it. FIDO U2F authentication provides far greater security by requiring the verification of a physical ‘key’, in addition to username and password.

Online security without the hassle

One U2F security key can be used with many FIDO-enabled online services, such as Salesforce.com, Google’s G Suite and Dropbox. U2F keys are more secure and convenient than using one-time-passcodes (OTP) sent to a mobile phone each time a user logs-in. No mobile or data connection need, and no mobile apps to install. The Key-ID U2F key comes with a key-ring attachment cord so users always have it with them when they need it.

What is a FIDO U2F key?

U2F USB keys provide an easy-to-use, yet highly secure form of identity verification, working in a similar way to PKI smart cards but without requiring a specialised card reader. The U2F (Universal 2nd Factor) open standard is defined by the non-profit FIDO (Fast Identity Online) Alliance and aimed at simplifying two-factor authentication.

How do staff use U2F keys?

Users self-register their key with their online accounts for work that support FIDO U2F authentication. When they sign-in they are prompted to insert their U2F key into a USB slot and press the button to validate their identity. No drivers or software to install with Chrome or Opera browsers, which support U2F as standard.
